What You Want from Severe-Duty Trucks

What You Want from Severe-Duty Trucks

The Uniqueness of Autocar’s Severe-Duty Trucks

Autocar-brand severe-duty trucks can handle any challenge thrown at them. As an industry leader. Autocar trucks have tested their mettle. You deserve a tool engineered for your specific vocation. So, when clients buy an Autocar truck, they know they’re getting something built just for them. That’s what we refer to as “the Autocar difference.”

Classifying Severe-Duty Trucks

Truck classifications vary depending on Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). Autocar manufactures heavy-duty trucks in Class 7 and Class 8. For Class 7 trucks, GVWR ranges between 26,001–33,000 pounds. Class 7 trucks usually have three or more axles.  Refuse trucks and street sweepers fall into this category. Class 8 trucks have a GVWR of more than 33,001 pounds. This category is where you’ll find cement trucks, refuse trucks and dump trucks. A truck’s GVWR includes both the total weight of the truck and its payload. When building a vehicle to fit a vocation, Autocar’s elite engineering team considers a variety of factors, such as:

  • Frame type, construction and dimension
  • Engine and/or driveline braking
  • Ride height, axle spacing, wheelbase
  • Terrain, operational surfaces
  • Loading and operational duty cycles

 Autocar’s Class 7 Severe-Duty Trucks

Consider Autocar’s ACMD 4x2 Class 7. The ACMD comes equipped with a welded and stamped steel cab. For increased defense against rust, the cab receives an E-coat. An ACMD operator can bank on this process providing both additional safety and increasing the life of the truck. The ACMD’s wraparound, flush bumpers protect the cab itself and the wiring beneath it. Autocar’s supply relationship with Cummins-Westport provides three different engine options:

  • ISB (200hp - 260hp)
  • ISL G (250hp - 300hp)
  • ISL 9 (330hp - 350hp)

Autocar’s Class 8 Severe-Duty Trucks

Last May, Autocar introduced its “BADASS” dump truck. The DC-64D represented the dump model of Autocar’s superior line of severe-duty DC-64 trucks. This mammoth machine offers an operator 325 degrees of visibility. That’s 30 percent more than Autocar’s competitors offer. If an operator needs to tow or pull, the DC-64 can accommodate loads up to 80,000 pounds. Cummins provides the powerful L9 and X12 engines that keep these brutes moving. In addition to dump, the DC-64 is also available in mixer, pump, and refuse models.
